About

A compass points the way — it doesn't change the traveler.

Learning Compass Chicago was created to give families a more collaborative, accessible, and individualized way to support diverse learners.

Why We Exist

Why this practice was created.

Too many capable students spend years being described by what they struggle with. They work hard, they care, and still school feels heavier for them than it does for their peers. Families are often told to wait, to try harder, or to accept a plan that was never really built for their child.

Learning Compass Chicago began with a different premise: that every learner has a way of understanding, processing, and engaging with information — and that the work is to find it, not to override it. The goal is never to force a student into one model of learning. It is to understand how they learn best and build support around their individual strengths and needs.

The compass in our name is deliberate. A compass helps you find direction. It does not change who is holding it.

Background

Informed by school psychology, delivered as educational support.

Learning Compass Chicago was founded by a school psychologist. That professional perspective brings together evidence-informed practice, careful observation, and individualized problem-solving to understand how academic skills, executive functioning, confidence, and environment shape a student's learning experience.

That perspective shapes everything here: how we gather information about a learner, how we choose strategies, and how we measure whether support is working. It means we look at academic skills alongside executive functioning, motivation, confidence, and environment — because those things are never separate in a real student's day.

Learning Compass Chicago provides Academic Intervention, Educational Support, and Parent Consultation. Executive functioning strategies are included within Educational Support. Parent Consultation is an educational service available even when a child is not receiving ongoing intervention. We do not provide therapy, counseling, psychological evaluation, diagnosis, or medical services.

What We Believe

Commitments that guide the work.

Individualization is the standard, not the upgrade.

Support is designed for one learner at a time. There is no default program to enroll in.

Strengths come first.

We name what a learner does well before we name what is hard, because strengths are the material we build with.

Families are collaborators.

Parents know their child. That knowledge is part of the plan, not background information.

Evidence informs, the learner decides the shape.

Research tells us what tends to work. The student in front of us tells us how to use it.
