Who does Learning Compass Chicago support?

We support learners who benefit from individualized educational support — students who are working hard without seeing progress, students building executive functioning skills, and neurodiverse learners whose needs aren't fully met in traditional settings. We also work with families and, when helpful, with schools.

What ages do you work with?

Support is individualized rather than tied to a fixed program, so the right fit depends on the learner and what they need. The best way to find out is a short conversation about your child.

What is academic intervention?

Academic intervention is targeted, individualized instruction that addresses specific skill areas where a learner is struggling. Rather than reviewing whatever is due that week, it focuses deliberately on the underlying skills that make classroom work more accessible.

What is educational support?

Educational support focuses on learning strategies, academic skills, organization, and executive functioning—the skills behind the schoolwork, including planning, task initiation, time management, study strategies, and self-monitoring. The goal is greater confidence and independence, not more supervision.

How is this different from traditional tutoring?

Tutoring typically supports the content of a course. Our work starts one level earlier — understanding how a learner learns, what is getting in the way, and which strategies and skills will make learning more accessible over time. We aren't selling sessions; we're building a plan around a specific student.

Do you work with neurodiverse learners?

Yes. We approach neurodiversity from a strengths-based perspective. Support is designed to remove barriers and build skills — never to make a learner less like themselves.

Can I schedule Parent Consultation as a standalone service?

Yes. Parent Consultation is available even when a child is not receiving ongoing Academic Intervention or Educational Support. It is an educational consultation that may include discussing evaluation results, academic concerns, learning needs, strategies for supporting a child at home, questions about a child's learning profile, and ways to better support a child academically. It is not therapy or mental health counseling.

How do I know what type of support my child needs?

Many families don't know at first, and that's a completely reasonable place to begin. An initial conversation helps clarify what you're seeing and what kind of support is likely to help most.

What does getting started look like?

You share a little about your learner through the inquiry form. We follow up to learn more, talk through what you're noticing, and determine together whether Learning Compass Chicago is a good fit.

Where are services provided?

Learning Compass Chicago supports students and families across Chicago through virtual services and in-person services provided in appropriate settings. Specific arrangements are discussed during the initial conversation; our business mailing address is not a client-facing center.

No. Learning Compass Chicago is an educational support and academic intervention practice. We do not provide psychotherapy, mental health counseling, psychological evaluation, diagnosis, or medical services.
